You may not be able to easily (or even legally) represent your music, even if you're a seasoned expert. If you can work with one of the companies we will be recommending today, you'll be relieved of tension. However, we don't want to send you out into the world until I've properly prepared you for your new role. Exclusive vs. non-exclusive music licensing will be the subject of this article's discussion. I'll also distinguish between stock music libraries and sync agencies, which I believe is crucial. You'll be ready to go on after you understand this notion. Please feel free to ask any questions in the comments area. Here we go. Let's start the celebration. Because of technical advancements, music licensing has never been easier for artists than it is now in our fully digitalized society.
In the past, obtaining a license for a piece of music required contacting a slew of various parties, each of whom had a say in who may do so. The licensing of your music for sync (TV, cinema, video games, ads, and other applications) is today as easy as clicking a few clicks for artists on various digital platforms (or less complicated options).
One of ShutterStock's products is a licensing platform known as PremiumBeat. When using a platform that has been customized and made easy to use, users are better able to get what they are looking for. From the Standard License, which covers all web-based projects, up to the Premium License, which includes music used on television, radio, apps, or films, you have many membership options to select from. To ensure that you have access to just the best music, it has partnered with many bright and award-winning songwriters and performers.
The online community for musicians, rappers, and singers looking for inexpensive yet high-quality instrumentals to utilize in their projects is gaining momentum with BeatStars. Music producers may provide beats to artists for licensing, sale, or even free distribution using this digital production marketplace. This eliminates the need for any studio space sharing. In addition to providing a user-friendly design that makes it easy for users to publish items, this platform also offers educational resources and tools that aid users in their pursuits.
BeatStars has made it easier for artists and producers to connect and collaborate in the music industry. According to the corporation, the website has over three million monthly views and has paid out over $85 million to independent artists who have sold music on the platform. Manufacturers can open a digital store and get instant cash if someone purchases their products from the site.
Content creators may use Epidemic Sound, a subscription-based service, to improve their films and projects by including musical components. People who utilize the site have a higher chance of getting discovered, making money, and progress in the music business because of the platform's world-class collection of composers, artists, and bands. Epidemic Sound accomplishes the same thing when it comes to music distribution and submission to popular playlists. A 50 percent cut of streaming revenue is given to them in addition to the money they get upfront for music that is approved into their catalog. Furthermore, the site is 'Royalty Free' and unaffiliated with any Organization for the Protection of Performance Rights. All of the music's financial rights are transferred to them, and they provide the artist a royalty-free, perpetual license to perform the song This shields the artist from future legal concerns, such as infringement lawsuits or copyright strikes, which may cost them money.
The services of Epidemic Sound, a music licensing company, should be considered if you are a self-employed musician. You're more likely to get viewed by the proper people since you have to seek their permission before posting your music. Their pricing structure is the one aspect of their business concept that I find objectionable. You may not be able to make as much money on this site as you would if you were a YouTuber or a podcaster, as this service seems to be more geared toward these types of content creators. But if your music is accepted into their collection, they will pay you an advance payment (consideration fee) for the opportunity of being included. In addition, they split your royalty revenue equally with you. However, don't worry. This isn't anything you'll discover in an exclusive music collection.
Although it doesn't make sense to me, this is not a whole. The more non-exclusive music licensing companies you submit to at once, the better off you'll be if you put them on your bucket list. You've got nothing to lose while shopping for non-exclusive deals at a discount retailer. A few music libraries, such as Epidemic Sound, provide a more "narrow" selection of music. You'll note, for example, that they place a greater emphasis on popular music genres than on classical, rock, metal, and other forms of music.
From this website's extensive catalogue of musical options, customers may choose pieces of music to use for their projects. Musicbed is an ideal alternative for meeting the criteria for sync licencing since it allows for submission of a single song, provides endless subscription levels, and allows users to construct their own themes. Musicbed has collaborated on the creation of music for a variety of projects and brands with a number of well-known companies. This includes well-known brands like McDonald's, Netflix, and Nike in addition to others like Ford and Coca-Cola. There are over a hundred different ways to search through recordings, and the audio is of the highest possible quality. This film-centric network allows connections to be made between filmmakers, composers, and other types of independent artists.
Another subscription-based service that enables creators to get royalty-free music for their work is the music licensing platform Soundstripe. The Soundstripe membership covers the cost of each song's licensing, making it a worry-free option for music writers. To the company's delight, which three expert musicians formed, only the best music is produced. They've granted over 5 million licenses and paid out over $3.6 million in royalties to artists. They continue to upload new music to the website every week despite this impressive milestone. It's easy to see that the platform cares about its users when you go to its website. If you want to take your music or project to the next level, sign up for a free Soundstripe account!
Video-sharing website Music Vine was designed with experienced filmmakers in mind. It permits users to upload and share their video projects. Music creators have access to a wide selection of high-quality tracks by well-known musicians, which they may utilize in their video productions. Several prominent businesses have worked with Music Vine to establish them as a good platform for syncing licensing services. Among the many advantages of the Music Vine platform is the wide variety of pricing options offered. Several alternatives are available for consumers who wish to pay a monthly fee rather than a one-time price. This is advantageous when consuming a large amount of music. If you don't require much information at once, a pay-per-use option is also available for content producers.
With its many additional benefits, Artlist can promote independent artists and showcase high-quality music that appeals to various producers and listeners. This site makes it quick and straightforward for anyone seeking a specific tone for their movies or projects to find a piece that meets their needs. Music licensing agreements that are not exclusive enable artists to maintain ownership of their music and control over its dissemination, allowing them to profit from the platform's royalty-free music licensing. Musicians working on their terms will find Artlist an invaluable resource for expanding their reach and earning money through sync licensing deals across the globe. Artgrid, the stock footage counterpart of Artlist, is also on my list since I use it personally.
Artlist video quality is exceptional. Therefore I have great hopes for Artlist. According to some accounts, Artlist is less organized than Artgrid. The company is the same in whatever situation. Check out my weekly music video/mockup, which is released every Monday night, to get an idea of the finished film. It will be more challenging to license your music via Artlist than through Pond5. Before you can begin, you'll need to submit your tracks for approval.
About one million people are members of ASCAP, a professional rights organization known as a PRO. The bulk of them are composers, songwriters, and music publishers. ASCAP is more like a community than a company since its members own and manage the organization in many respects. Because of its uniqueness, ASCAP stands out from all the other music licensing companies. It aims to assist both music creators and consumers by offering an excellent experience as a forward-thinking platform.
In contrast to the other platforms, ASCAP's user interface is unique since it only licenses its members' public performances. A song may be sung in public in various settings, including restaurants, gyms, events, radio stations, television broadcasts, airplanes, and retail establishments that are open to the general public. If you own a business that plays music, you may have had contact with the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP). Look at all of the ASCAP licensing categories to see whether you or your business are eligible for a license.
Founded in 2006, Pond5 has been a royalty-free portal that offers music, effects, stock photos, video, and other media assets, among other things. It's a one-stop store for producers that are seeking media effects. It also gives exclusive content that can only be accessed by signing up for a subscription or visiting the website directly. Customers' productivity and profitability may be improved by helping them maximize the value of their labor. When selling their music exclusively via Pond5, artists may expect a 50-60% royalty cut, which is the industry norm.
Pond5 is unquestionably the most user-friendly stock-media provider in the market for accommodating artists. They have become the world's largest platform for collecting and distributing royalty-free stock footage, with more than 25 million clips. Few stock music libraries don't entirely provide royalty-free music. Pond5 is one of such libraries (although it is). You can earn royalties from the music you license on Pond5 if you use the service. If your sales suffer as a consequence (royalty administration extra work for impatient music supervisors), you should proceed with care. This is what we think you should do. With non-exclusive music licensing, you may be unable to earn royalties from the sales of your music. Charge sync fees, and you'll generate much more money right away (although Pond5 keeps 35 percent of that). As a result, Pond5's self-service model is one of its most enticing features.
Audiosocket and ASX
Your patience will be rewarded with Audiosocket for three months of listening. Music licensing companies that genuinely care about helping independent musicians and bringing back the glory of music to the world rate high on my list. As both a music library and a music sync agency, Audiosocket falls somewhere in the middle. Their non-exclusive and exclusive (ASX) agreements make this possible (Audiosocket). However, your music will be adjusted appropriately and produced regardless of your choice. You'll be able to keep a large portion of the sync fees you make using Audiosocket and ASX.
A music licensing marketplace, Melodicloud is comparable to Pond5. Because this is a non-exclusive and "self-serve" arrangement, you will also be eligible for royalties. Melodicloud stands out from other music licensing platforms since it only focuses on music licensing. One of Pond5's specialties is music, but it also handles many other digital assets. As a result, Melodicloud visitors are undoubtedly there to listen to music! The mode of payment is an important factor to bear in mind. It's also possible to set your price on Melodicloud; however, Melodicloud keeps 50% of the sync fees you produce. Compared to Pond5, this is a significant increase of 35%. On the other hand, Melodicloud's licenses are much more flexible.
Marmoset is currently not accepting new submissions. Please accept our apologies for any trouble this might have caused. This page will be updated as soon as the situation changes, even though they are now BACKED UP with submissions. It is significantly less costly than Pond5 and Artlist in terms of pricing. Our favorite feature of the platform is its ability to provide end-user licenses based on a project's size rather than standard non-exclusive music licensing pricing models. Essentially, this suggests that your piece will fetch a more significant price on the market. My best prediction is that Marmoset will take 50% of the revenue generated in the region. We think it's more valuable due to its platform's overall quality and reputation.
This is a similar concept to Artlist in that they will be responsible for managing the many elements of your brand's identity (such as your artwork as well as its metadata and your profile information, for example). There is also a barrier to entry, such as Artlist, which requires high-quality recordings. You'll have a better chance of hitting a home run if you use our collection instead of Artlist's since it's more carefully curated. You'll also be more likely to acquire jobs due to this. In my research, Marmoset was the one music licensing company that stood out above the others.
Another fantastic sale. I'm very satisfied! Thanks again.
Seller has the most incredible beat I have ever heard. Very easy to browse!
This producer/DJ is a freaking BEAST! I wasn't expecting something so great at such reasonable price!
